Become a key player in Eden’s growth strategy! As a Commercial Manager, you’ll lead retail fit-out projects, manage vendor relationships, and ensure seamless project delivery.
Reporting to the Sales & Marketing Director, the role is a strategic position responsible for supporting the delivery of Revenue & DM targets. This role will require you to develop customer relationships across various touch points. Your focus will be on commercial and vendor management for the delivery of retail fit out across new stores and refits in the UK & EU.
The role will be working with the LCC Sourcing team to ensure quality, specification is correct, timely deliveries are made aligned to programme demand.
Formatting, calculating, generating quotations and estimates for customer projects as required.
Supporting the delivery of our operational excellence for delivering projects to the highest quality, on time, and to budget.
The responsibilities will include understanding and managing all commercial elements of projects highlighting any risks, understanding of commercial contracts, market trends and competitor intel including developing a compelling response that protects Eden’s position with the customer and market to promote a best-in-class organization.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible and accountable for commercial control of cost and margin across various projects developing and executing strategies to deliver profitable growth in accordance with the company’s strategy and expectations.
- Engage with the commercial and contractual elements both internally and client side to ensure contracts are fully understood with any key risks identified prior to commencement.
- Carry out the estimating of all tenders and work closely with the Commercial, Purchasing, Production and Project Managers to review/analyze bids ahead of presentation to the business for sign off and approval.
- Attend initial site surveys/scope of works meetings at tender stage were possible and advise on procurement strategy.
- Support the appointment process of installation contractors and ensure contractual arrangements are in place ahead of works commencing.
- Identify, develop, and convert opportunities for variations and extras on all projects documenting a robust change control (variation) process to be used.
- Manage and control a robust commercial review process with the internal project delivery teams to ensure projects are tracking to signed off margins with any commercial risks identified and mitigated.
- Prepare detailed cost reports for every project and share with the business.
- Network effectively within customers to develop relationships and business opportunities, through securing meetings with key stakeholders and decision makers.
- Work with the Account manager to write and deliver high quality tender responses and pitches to clearly articulate the Eden value proposition ensuring successful outcomes and increased conversion rates.
- Perform the role of “Bid Manager” on all opportunities that have been pre-qualified, acting as the voice of the customer back into the business, clearly communicating their requirements and expectations, identifying, and mitigating potential risks both internally and to the customer in order to meet internal and external deadlines.
- Work closely with and execute a seamless handover to the Project Management team ensuring that a seamless customer on-boarding experience is achieved, passing over the day-to-day management of the project delivery, sharing all commercial details, knowledge, and expertise to enable them to identify and maximize the ongoing value.
- Work closely with all internal departments and colleagues to build strong, collaborative relationships and a teamwork approach to ensure voice of the customer and customer experience is clearly understood and delivered.
- Develop and share market intelligence and competitor knowledge to enable the company to secure maximum profit because of informed, intelligent tendering.
- Provide a monthly 80/20 report on part usage.
- Update and maintain costs and parts on the ERP system.
- Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use.
- Adhere to the business process at all stages of the opportunity cycle.
Key skills & experience
- Experience and knowledge of working in Retail fit outs / Retail construction sector across the UK.
- Proven track record working within this type of role.
- Experience of contracts and working ways in the UK as well as the EU.
- Understanding of the customer decision making process and the ability to articulate a value proposition to increase margin growth.
- Ability to plan, organise, communicate, and manage all commercial requirements to meet the customers objectives.
- Understanding of the current industry legislation and any potential impact that needs to be addressed.
- Strong communication skills that can be clearly evidenced and articulated.
- Understanding and knowledge of large organisations and how to ensure effective policy implementation.
- Experienced in MS Excel and PowerPoint, which will be necessary in the creation of visually and verbally engaging reports and presentations.
- Full driving licence and commutable to client locations and our offices as required.
